A Very Columbus Weekend

Written by    Sep 26, 2016

When I was a freshman, part of Commencement was “exploring Columbus” as Ohio State is so keenly sibling to, or arguably a gear within, Ohio’s capital. While this event can certainly help students from out of the town get acquainted with the city they will now have as a secondary home, there is definitely a difference between walking around a city and experiencing it through […]

A northerner on the Short North

Written by    Sep 6, 2016

Let’s talk about Carthage, New York. A smallish town eighty miles north of Syracuse, where summer lasts for about two seconds and the rest of the time we live in igloos. The shopping scene is just as barren: for groceries, there’s Price Chopper; for morning coffee there’s Dunkin Donuts and McDonald’s; for lunch and dinner there are a couple diners, and if you’re feeling fancy, […]

Wicked good deals

Written by    Sep 2, 2016

I always dreamed of seeing a musical NOT put on by high-schoolers convinced they were the next Julie Andrews or Dick Van Dyke. It took 18 years, but Ohio State is the place where dreams come true. Not without stress, I might add. Let me share: As a part of the Humanities Scholar group, it is mandatory that I accrue a certain amount of points each […]

What I’m doing this summer

Written by    Jun 28, 2016

What am I up to while I’m home this summer, you ask? Well I’ll tell you! Interning So I’m enrolled in the Communications Internship course for the summer, which basically means I’m earning credit for a class as I complete my internship. I’m working for a local fiction paperback shop (yes, those still exist), and I’m developing my marketing, outreach and customer service skills in addition to […]

Meeting the monkeys in Ifrane

Written by    Jun 14, 2016

This weekend a few friends and I took a taxi to Ifrane, Morocco in the Atlas Mountains to see an 800-year-old tree and meet some monkeys. My photography skills leave much to be desired, so if you want to see really beautiful pictures of Ifrane, you can find some here.   The one-hour cab ride only cost about $3 each way to get up to Ifrane, and the […]

Ben Babbles ‘Bout the Bike Paths

Written by    Jun 9, 2016

Did you like that alliteration in the title? I thought so. As you know, The OSU is located in the lovely capital city of Columbus, OH. As mentioned in every Welcome Week program, Columbus is the 15th largest city in the nation (Surprising, am I right? You would think it would be something like Toledo). Columbus is not only the capital of the state, but […]

The Pizzuti Collection

Written by    May 12, 2016

Maybe you’re thinking what I did: What is a Pizzuti, and what are they collecting? The Pizzuti Collection is an art gallery in the Short North, which is an area south of campus with lots of cool restaurants, shops, and art galleries. It was opened by the Pizzuti family in 2011, with Mr Pizzuti getting to know the artists and choosing pieces that were intriguing, […]
