Summer classes are finally over! I had my last exam today. I am now on summer break. For a couple weeks at least.
This summer has been insane. From classes and work, to all the volunteer work I did too. I finished my Digital Imaging class, and my final went great. I helped a lot with Ohio State’s Pelotonia team. A good friend of mine who is on Team Buckeye came to me in June and asked if I could take some pictures for a fundraiser. Like anyone would, I said of course.
But I never expected anything to really come about it. I have taken pictures for them twice now, and this last week I took pictures and that one fundraiser opened 2 doors for me.
Door number 1:
There was a rap group that performed during both fundraisers. The group FBA, if you haven’t heard of them check them out http://fbamusicgroup.com they are fantastic, has asked me to work with them on video projects and some photography work. I flipped out when they asked me. It’s pretty much my first official “freelancing” gig or anything outside of my jobs (both the magazine and my video producing job) that I could do. I kept my cool when talking to them of course…..
This pretty much means I’m hanging with a rap group on OSU football days. I get to make videos for them. What is life?!?!?!?
Door number 2:
Someone else came up to me when I was talking with FBA, and asked what I’m studying. I said media communications with a minor in video arts. He brought up the internship class that communication majors get to take, and we chatted for a while. His name is Daniel David, the co-founder of Trending Sounds. Let’s just say now I’m working on starting an internship this fall with him. You should check them out too, I’m stoked. http://trendingsounds.com
So for anyone who doesn’t think volunteering is worth it, it is. People will see you working hard for what you want, and doors will open up for you. Many doors have opened up once I got involved with things that I was passionate about.
Is it possible to go through two doors at once? Not technically. But I am.
