The Ohio State University

And I’m not just saying that I made a blog post… haven’t done that for awhile… but I did something that has been taking my time and focus away from other things such as blogging: I presented my original solo show for an audience!
For my Arts Distinction Thesis, I wrote and performed a ~30 minute solo show exploring what contributes to our stories the only way looking at them through a Mechanical Engineering and Theatre major lens. How do our experiences, relationships, knowledge, and the of the laws of the universe inform our choices? Looking at things from a STEAM-y perspective (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics), how can we make sense of the complex? Of the unknown?
While writing and performing your own work can be terrifying, it was also really rewarding to hear what other people got from my work.
It plays for one more night in the Ohio State Department of Theatre Lab Series. Because this is my thesis, I will also be presenting a poster and presentation about it at the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum this Wednesday and I will be defending it later in April.
Doing this as research at The Ohio State University has been one of the most rewarding things I have done (even though I’m not done yet!). I’ve been able to find funding to do a project that truly interests me which helped fund my study abroad trip to London and Edinburgh, UK this past summer.
What I also did was buy my cap/gown and tassels. which is sad… because then it means that my time at Ohio State is nearly over… but what a ride it was :)
Art and Engineering don’t clash ;)
