Another Fun Thing to do in Columbus: Escape!

 Written by    March 29, 2017

No, I’m not talking about escaping Columbus itself. On Sunday afternoon, I went with two of my friends to Lockdown Columbus, an escape room about 15 minutes northwest of campus. For those of you who have never heard of an escape room, you’re locked in a room about the size of a large office and must find clues that lead you to unlock the door that allows you to escape within 60 minutes of your entering (If you don’t escape, they just let you out at the end, so there’s no punishment, except for maybe loss of pride.) You’re in a group of about 5-6 people and everyone has to work together so you can escape. The escape room we were in was a “crime scene,” where clues from the scene of a murder led us to the right combination of numbers that unlocked the door.

I wasn’t sure what to think about the escape room at first, but I ended up having a ton of fun! I was with two of my friends and two people who we did not know, but being locked in a room for an hour and having to solve a murder case is certainly a good bonding experience. We all contributed, searching for clues and decoding messages, and I am proud to say we escaped with about 6 minutes to go and correctly identified the murderer in our fictional mystery. Although the crime scene was apparently the easiest escape room they had, it was definitely challenging and one of the employees told us only about half the teams actually get out in time. I would definitely recommend going to Lockdown Columbus or a different escape room whenever you want to “escape” from campus!
