Asking For Help

 Written by    September 12, 2017

If you’re anything like me, asking other people for help is your least favorite thing to do.

I’m not sure how it started, but asking other people for help just makes me feel weak. I don’t like admitting that I can’t do something for myself and I absolutely hate feeling like I’m a burden to other people.

However, this past August I found myself in a place where I would absolutely need help and I couldn’t run from it. To me, it was the biggest favor in the world and I waited until the very last minute to ask someone for assistance. To my surprise I was met with multiple people who were willing to help me out and who told me my favor really wasn’t a big deal at all.

I was quite thrown off. I realized that all this time I had been freaking out, I could have just gone to the people who have my back no matter what. I can’t describe to you the instant relief I felt when I realized I had been stressing out about something small.

So I just want to say, if you’re anything like me and asking people for help makes you nervous. Keep in mind that 1.) what you may be asking for is probably not as inconvenient as you think and 2.) friends aren’t just there to make you laugh and keep you company, true friends are the ones who are willing to be there for you in your time of need.

And this is especially the case in college; you are going to need help. Whether it’s with classwork (you may need a tutor), with stress relief, or with thinking about the future. At some point you’ve just got to swallow your pride and ask for help. I’m telling you it will be beneficial in the long run!
