If you’ve read my previous blog posts, you probably know that I love OUAB’s (Ohio Union Activities Board) events where they bring celebrities to Ohio State (and all of the events are free!). If you know me in real life and/or follow me on Twitter, you probably know that I love “Hamilton”. So this past weekend I got to attend an event that combined two things I love: OUAB brought in Leslie Odom Jr., the actor who played Aaron Burr in the original Broadway cast of “Hamilton”, to speak at Ohio State!
A few weeks ago, I stood in a long line of students outside the Ohio Union to get a ticket, and once I had gotten my ticket, all that was left to do was get excited for what I knew would be an awesome evening.
And the event did not disappoint! The evening started with Leslie Odom Jr. performing songs both from “Hamilton” and some of his original songs. He has an amazing voice, so even though I wasn’t familiar with any of his original songs, it was so awesome to hear him sing. After he sang several songs, he did a Q&A with the advisor of Off the Lake (Ohio State’s student theatre group) about how he got into acting, funny “Hamilton” memories and advice for people who are studying the arts.
To end the night, he told us that he was going to sing one more song, and he sang “Without You” from “RENT”, which he said was “his ‘Hamilton'” when he was in high school (and was the show he made his Broadway debut in). I can’t think of a better way to have spent my Sunday night! Thank you to OUAB for planning another wonderful event!
