There’s a Facebook Group for That

 Written by    November 15, 2017

Do you have a question about a class you need to take for your major? Do you want to sell a football ticket? Are you looking for a ride home for the weekend?

There’s a Facebook group for that.

Although they may seem outdated compared to Twitter and Instagram, Facebook groups are still pretty useful when it comes to certain Ohio State communications. Here are my experiences with some Ohio State Facebook groups over the time I’ve been a student here:

After I was first accepted into Ohio State, I joined an “Ohio State Class of 2018” Facebook group. In this group, people mostly introduced themselves, tried to find potential roommates, and asked any questions they had in hopes that one of the few older students in the group would answer. Although I didn’t find any roommates or make any lasting friendships through the group, it was a good way to be introduced to my Ohio State experience and to get some of my questions answered!

Once I started my first semester, I joined the Facebook group for Speech and Hearing Science majors at Ohio State. This has been a great place to find out what professors are like before I take their class, see which classes I actually need to buy the books for, and learn about the major from students who had gone through it themselves.

I also joined the Ohio State University rideshare group. In this group, people either post that they need a ride to a certain city during a certain time, or people will post that they’re driving to a location to see if anyone else needs a ride there. This group is good for finding an option to get home for a weekend, especially if you don’t have a car on campus.

Finally, I’m in a Facebook group for selling Ohio State football tickets. I’ve definitely made some good money selling tickets for games, so it’s good to be in this group if you know there are some games you can’t/don’t want to go to, or if you have a friend coming in who wants to go to a game with you! Just make sure you meet up with the person you’re selling to/buying from in a public place and consider bringing a friend along with you.

This is just a sample of the many active Facebook groups that exist for the Ohio State community. There are many other Ohio State Facebook groups that are worth checking out to fulfill any need you have, so definitely look into them for any Ohio-State-related interest you might have!
