Learning to Love Change

 Written by    November 27, 2017

I have never liked change. Whether it be small change (switching shampoo brands, for instance) or large change (like, you know, going to college), I’ve always struggled to some extent with adjustments. This year, my personal goal has been to become comfortable with change.

Coming from high school, in which each day followed the same linear sequence of events, I was extremely uncomfortable with simply having different classes on different days, among many other aspects of my new life. I attempted to create routines and schedules for myself here, but ultimately, I have been learning to accept the fact that life is not the same from day to day. And honestly, that’s a good thing.

Most days I wake up and have no idea what I’ll be doing twelve hours from then, whereas in high school I could tell you my exact time and activity for the following Thursday at any given time. There’s something exhilarating about waking up to unknowns, and I’ve learned to turn my fears of the unfamiliar into anticipation for possibilities.

Change is unpleasant in many ways and for different reasons, but by learning to embrace the fact that things are different, I feel that I’ve expanded my horizons significantly since entering college. Ohio State always has something to offer to anyone willing to break free of routine and seek it.

If you don’t believe me, take Beyoncé’s advice.
