Myth: You Can’t Cook in College

 Written by    December 8, 2017

Everyone knows that college kids live off of ramen, pizza rolls, and anything else you can microwave. While I do shamelessly love my ramen and pizza rolls, it’s important to know that you actually can cook food in college! Most of the dorms have shared kitchens with stoves, ovens, and refrigerators. It’s great if you just want to bake some chocolate chip cookies, but you can use the kitchens for anything you want! Plus, the front desk will loan other cooking supplies to you, like bowls, pans, stirring spoons, whisks, etc.

When a friend from high school came to visit a couple weekends ago, we made a short trip to Kroger to buy some things for a dessert for Friendsgiving: pudding, vanilla wafers, bananas, and whipped cream. The front desk provided the rest. The kitchen wasn’t crowded at all, so we were able to easily put together the dessert.

You may think that if you’re moving out for college, you won’t be eating any “real” food or cooking anything yourself. But the truth is, there are plenty of options for you, not only¬† from on-campus dining locations, but also that you can create yourself in the kitchen!
