Light Up North Area

 Written by    December 8, 2017

I do not often get to go to holiday celebrations during this time of year. Between finals and traveling, it can be hard to fit it into my schedule. However, I made sure to make time this year for Light Up North Area. The student service group Ohio Staters holds this event every December, and since it was on the last day of classes, I was also going to celebrate a monthlong holiday from homework.

The event started with everyone’s favorite event draw: food! There was hot chocolate, Kind bars, and Insomnia cookies to keep everyone warm while we milled around waiting for the performances to start. Several groups performed, including the club dance team, the theater group Off the Lake, and the Indian dance team Genesis, all performing to both holiday and pop music. I really enjoyed seeing so many different clubs I don’t normally hear much about in action.

Once all of the groups had finished, we found out why the event was called “Light Up North Area.” Everyone was given a candle and we formed two long lines of people from the clock tower all the way down to High Street. All of the candles were lit, and we closed Light Up North Area 2017 by singing Carmen Ohio. Even though it was cold, the food and singing made Light Up North Area one holiday celebration I was glad I went to!
