The Perfect Internship

 Written by    February 1, 2018

When I came back to Ohio State for my third year I knew it was time for me to start looking into internships. I was excited about the prospect of doing work that interested me, but I had no idea where to start. Lucky for me there was futurelink, a portal to careers and internships provided to me by Ohio State’s college of arts and sciences. The portal allowed me to search for internships in specific cities, for specific semesters and with specific requirements.¬†After finding a few internships in Columbus for the spring 2018 semester, I had the convenient option of automatically sending in my resume.

A few weeks after sending my resume I got an email from my top choice, a social media marketing internship at a paint and sip studio very close to campus. They asked me to come in for an interview and a few days later I officially accepted the internship!

I am now three weeks in, and I have to say it’s one of the best things I’ve done in my college career thus far. I’m doing work that actually excites and challenges me.

After three years of taking classes in my major I finally have the opportunity to apply the strategies that I’ve been learning. I’m also getting a feel for whether or not this is what I want to do with my life so I don’t end up graduating with no experience and no idea of what direction to go in.

Sure it’s scary thinking about the future, but my advice to other Buckeyes earnestly looking for an internship: Don’t be afraid to utilize the tools that we have been offered at Ohio State. There will be very few times in our lives where we are provided with so many resources in one place.

And who knows, you might actually find something you love!
