2018 Scholars Student Leadership Summit

 Written by    February 1, 2018

On January 27th I had the opportunity to attend the Scholars Student Leadership Summit with the Media, Marketing Communication leadership team.

As we walked over to the event together, like typical college students, we complained about having to wake up early and give up half a Saturday. But we were all pleasantly surprised. And it wasn’t just the free bagels, coffee and Moe’s.

There was a diverse selection of sessions to attend, and I got to go to Effective Event Planning, and two different roundtable discussions: Second Year Experience and Service Opportunities/Community Engagement.

I enjoyed that the sessions were interactive and collaborative, rather than an adult talking at us for 45 minutes. There were so many opportunities to hear from other students and share different perspectives. I learned a lot about the other 16 scholars programs that Ohio State offers. Many of them are doing awesome things!

At lunch our leadership team had the opportunity to talk with a variety of students and learn about the structures, activities and goals unique to their programs. We were able to come up with so many ideas to implement into MMC to make it more meaningful and beneficial to current and incoming students.

By the end of the day my teammates and I were fired up and had drafted a plan of action for MMC. We’re grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with other students and excited to develop our program!

I forgot to take a photo at the summit, but here’s a great pic of Thompson in the snow. Go Bucks! (PHOTO BY KAPCAR)
