Although I’m only a First Year student, I already feel so many doors have been opened for me here at THE Ohio State University. When transitioning from high school to college, it’s easy to think some things are meant to be left in the past. However, I’ve found I’m still able to express myself through the endless opportunities this university has to offer.
Dancing with Misty
As I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts, the Ohio Union Activities Board (OUAB) provides many unique on campus experiences for students. I recently entered into one of their lottery programs for a chance to dance with a famous ballerina. After a stressful, long week of midterms, I discovered I had won a spot in a master dance class with Misty Copeland!
Practicing our jumps
In high school, I was apart of an arts program, so I was dancing five days a week for four years. It was so strange coming to college and not being able to do that everyday. I ultimately decided I wanted to pursue a career in the science field rather than the arts. Being able to take a dance class taught by Misty Copeland allowed to revisit my high school passions in an exciting new way. I can honestly say I would not have the opportunities I have here if I chose to attend a different university.
Choosing to attend Ohio State was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my young adult life. I’ve met so many wonderful people in just two short semesters. I’ve also gotten very involved on campus even as a freshman with little to no experience. Although I’m not turning my passion for dance into a career, I’m still able to enjoy it through student organizations and university wide events here on campus. Although some doors may close when graduating high school, many new ones will open when you choose to become a buckeye.
