Did you know? The College of Arts and Sciences offers
résumé reviews for all of its students every weekday from 9:30-2:30. You don’t even have to make an appointment, you can just show up with your résumé and BuckID and they’ll be happy to help you out!
I heard about the résumé walk-in hours a few semesters ago, and I always thought it would be a good idea to go so that I could have someone look over my résumé and tell me if it looks professional. But somehow, I kept putting it off until literally almost the last week of my last semester, at which point I realized I was running out of time to use the service and that I needed to do it ASAP. Now I’m here to tell you all about it!
I went to the Arts and Sciences office in Denney Hall right when they opened at 9:30, so I barely had to wait before someone was able to meet with me. I told them that I wanted a general résumé review, and they looked over my résumé and gave me lots of helpful suggestions for how to make it more impressive. This included adding information about the results I accomplished for each task I listed, and the correct way to format entries about my leadership experiences in student organizations.
I just needed a general overview, but the office also offers services for people who want their résumé to be appealing to employers in a certain field, and they can give tips for interviews and cover letters as well.
As far as I know, there’s no limit to the amount of times you can use these services, so if you want to be more prepared than me, I would recommend going to the walk-in hours at least once each year to make sure any updates you add look professional. Happy résumé writing!
