Rainbow Celebration

 Written by    May 1, 2018

Last week, I started out my graduation celebration by attending Ohio State’s Lavender Rainbow Celebration, the celebration for LGBTQ students graduating from Ohio State hosted by the Ohio State Multicultural Center and Scarlet and Gay, Ohio State’s LGBTQ alumni group. I can’t believe that it was finally my turn to be part of the graduating class at Rainbow Celebration!

During the celebration, each graduating student was called up and presented with rainbow cords to wear during commencement. They also played a slideshow with our future plans, and it was really fun to see what everyone will be doing next year!

The Scarlet and Gay society also presented scholarships to several undergraduate students in the LGBTQ and ally community, and the Multicultural Center announced the recipients of the Buckeye Pride Community Impact Awards, which are given to a graduating student, an Ohio State faculty member, and an Ohio State staff member who have had a positive impact on the LGBTQ community at Ohio State. To wrap up the evening, we heard from a recent Ohio State alum who had been active in the Ohio State LGBTQ community, who gave us advice on being a “real adult.”

I’ve had a great time being involved in the Ohio State LGBTQ community, and the Rainbow Celebration was a fantastic way to celebrate the community I’ve found and the friends I’ve made. Now the graduation celebrations will continue with the upcoming Commencement Week!
