You are What You Eat (Pt. III)

What’s one thing all college students have in common? We’re always hungry.

One of my favorite meals is from the rice bowl station at Curl Market. For $7.95 (five cents shy of a swipe) you can get a pretty substantial and yummy meal.

I order rice, chicken, lettuce, carrots, edamame and cucumbers. They also offer mushrooms, tofu and scallions. I don’t like my bowl drenched in sauce, so I’ve learned to ask for teriyaki on the side.

I love this meal for many reasons. The portions are big, so I often have leftovers. It’s almost exactly one swipe. The rice is always super hot, and the chicken is tender and flavored well. It’s also an easy way to get in your veggies.

I’m trying to limit myself and not eat these rice bowls more than once a week, so I don’t get sick of them. But they’re hard to resist when it’s super cold and you’re super hungry.

Curl Market also has other stations including the salad bar, deli, sushi, burritos, pasta and soup. Some of my favorite meals include…

  • The salad bar. It has apples, grapes, yogurt, granola, carrots, cucumbers, humus and usually a rotating salad. I like to get apples or carrots and humus if I need a snack or am trying to add up to a swipe.
  • I enjoy a flatbread sandwich with turkey, provolone, avocado, tomato and spinach from the deli station.
  • My go-to sushi order is the Philly roll. 
  • The burritos and bowls are good but tough to compare to Chipotle. They do have spicy potatoes which are unique and tasty.
  • From the pasta station, I enjoy zucchini noodles with chicken, white beans, corn, broccoli, kale, spinach, marinara and parmesan cheese.
  • I’d highly recommend the chicken tortilla soup. And most people love the white mac and cheese (it’s almost Panera!).

Curl is great for lunch and dinner if you don’t want to deal with a dining hall. It’s usually a quick in and out, but it can sometimes be challenging to find a seat during the lunch and dinnertime rush.
