13 Days…
By Alex | February 28, 2012
…until my first final of Winter Quarter. DUN DUN DUN. It may seem like a while right? No, you’re wrong. To me, that’s not enough time. With 4 finals to study for I am slowly but surely losing my mind as each second passes of every minute of every hour of every day. I am getting even more delusional as I’m writing this to you all.
One thing that I think is really going to help me this quarter is organization. By making an actual schedule of what to study, when to study it, and giving myself a time frame in which I can complete it, I will be able to get more done in a sufficient amount of time.
And I think everyone should try it!
I’m breakin’ it down like so:
13 days X 24 hours = 312 hours
Seems like a lot? Think again.
I need at least 8 hours of sleep every night… so that puts me at:
12 nights X 8 hours = 96 hours
312 hours – 96 hours = 216 hours
Then I have to factor in time for work, the Taking Back Sunday Concert, BalletMet’s Sleeping Beauty, eating, working out, meetings, and other homework up until finals week.
I won’t even calculate it because I don’t want to know how much time that leaves me with. Because then I might crawl into a fetal position and start crying about how my life is over.
So I am going to go into these next 13 days positive and ready to work. I think organization, focus, and motivation are the keys to successful studying! (Well duh, Alex).
If you still need some more help with focusing and motivation, here are some tips I’ve created for myself for these next few weeks!
1. Change your Facebook password to something ridiculous. Type it, then write it down on a piece of paper and store it somewhere safe! Then after finals, you can change it back to something normal. You’ll be a lot less distracted and be less motivated to get on your computer. An example of a ridiculous password: djowpfmdjwij (that’s probably something you won’t remember off the top of your head, unless you have a photographic memory..then I can’t help you).
2. Don’t stay up to crazy hours of the night studying! You will not want to wake up the morning and study. Plus all of the good spots in the library will be taken up and you’ll be stuck with no where quiet to go! Always get a good amount of sleep, you’ll be able to retain so much more information!
3. DON’T CRAM! Evenly space out all of your notes from all of your classes. You won’t remember everything the day of the final if you cram all the information into your noggin the night before.
These are the top 3 tips I’m taking into consideration for winter finals and I hope they’ll work for you as much as they’ll work for me!
Happy studying!
XOXO,
Alex
