Spring Culinary Adventures

Like most students, I’m usually way too busy (and too broke) to go out to eat. It’s more of a “let’s shove this in the microwave and hope it works out as a meal” kind of thing. But every once in a while, you need a break, and you need some real food.
Since my 21st birthday was last week, several friends took me out, on many different occasions. (I’m a lucky girl to have such great friends!) Two of those places were entirely new to me.
1. El Vaquero (3230 Olentangy River Road)
I love all kinds of food, and I think it’s fun to try food from all regions of the world. I especially love spicy food, and I put hot sauce on everything, including salads. So, taking me to a Mexican restaurant was a great idea. Two, three different kinds of hot sauce on the table? Sign me up!
El Vaquero seems to be kind of a Columbus staple, and there are locations all over the Columbus area. Well, now I know why–it’s great! I had a shrimp fajita type thing, and it was awesome.
2. Yellow Brick Pizza (892 Oak Street)
One of my roommate’s parents came to visit her this weekend from Wisconsin, and they were kind enough to take me out to a birthday dinner. (I’ve lived with this roommate for almost three years, so it’s safe to say we’re very close and very good friends, and I know her parents well, too.) I think it was partially for my birthday, and partially to thank me for being my roommate’s chauffeur (like on Wednesday, when she left her phone at the MCAT testing center 20 minutes away from our apartment and I drove her back to get it, or when she doesn’t grocery shop for a month and resorts to eating WAY too much mac and cheese…that’s when I intervene and insist on taking her to Kroger).
Anyway, this pizza was probably the best I’ve ever had. They had so much variety, and you could make your own if you wanted. We had a pizza called the “Pizza of Dreams” or something like that, and it had mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, parmesan, tomato, pepper, and a honey drizzle. It really was the pizza of dreams. We also got the spicy barbeque pizza, but it was not that spicy. Trust me, I would know.
If you’re looking for somewhere fun to go to try something new, then I definitely recommend both of these places. Bon appetit!

Hi, Ana :) The spicy food is not my favourite, but the pizza…mmmm…. I got hungry :)) You say that the “Pizza of Dreams” is one good place. I’ll try it for sure. Thanks for sharing :)
