#BELIEVEINSHERLOCK

Yes, Moriarty was real.

Something that has been making me tickled pink all year is the mysterious presence of flyers, stickers, etc. all over campus for Sherlock: That is, the BBC TV show that puts Sherlock Holmes in modern times. It’s also one of the best shows ever. The end of the most recent season, without giving too much away, left with Sherlock being framed by Moriarty (aka bad guy). This ending has spurred a quiet but ever-present campus movement led by some anonymous person in support of Sherlock.
May I present to you the evidence:

Even though the majority of students here at OSU (myself included) are here for academic purposes, we also live our lives here, and that includes a lot outside academics—college becomes so much more than just your major (which is especially nice when you have no clue what you want your major to be). One of those things outside academics is, obviously, entertainment. During winter quarter I remember writing about how much I was falling in love with the show. In fact, when I think about winter quarter as a whole, I recall a lot of fond memories of going up to the 20th floor of Lincoln Tower and watching Sherlock, whether it be for a study break, as something to do on the weekend, or just to hang out with people.
And now wherever I go, to classrooms or on campus buses or walking down High Street or the elevators of my dorm, I see the work of some unknown student who is just as Sherlocked as I am. And it makes Ohio State feel so small. And so exciting. And so mysterious. And so fun.
So when you think about OSU, yes. Think about our awesome academic programs. And our athletics. And our clubs. And our beautiful campus. But also imagine all the little niches waiting for you, the uniqueness that is THE Ohio State University, especially if you’re Sherlocked too.
And in the meantime, #BELIEVEINSHERLOCK.
Rude Awakening: I’m seriously questioning the fact that I’m from Houston. It’s starting to get into the 80s here, and I just want it to be cold again. Weird, right? I don’t think you’ll ever see me hanging out on Oval Beach.
Pleasant Surprise: Finally saw The Avengers with my roommate Tuesday night at the Gateway. Yes, yes, I thought it was fantastic. Tix were only $6.50 each, too, because of our student discounts!
In firm friendship,
Julia Rose S.
