The Search Is Over … Possibly?
By Taylor | July 4, 2012
Finally, the search is over. I’ve found an apartment. Then … it caught on fire.
Not too long ago, I wrote a blog discussing my search for the perfect apartment … or rather a decent, cheap place would have done the job. You can refresh your memory here.
Well I’ve found my little piece of apartment heaven at Lexington Park Apartments. It’s a good 10 mins from campus, between Henderson and Bethel. That’s close to my job at Texas Roadhouse, and not too far from campus either. I’m quite satisfied. There was a special going on during the month of June, where I got my $800 apartment for $650 a month. DEAL!
For those that are visual learners, like myself.
I’ve been waiting to hear back from the leasing manager and my tentative move-in date is August 3rd, just in time for me to move out of my summer job in Morrill Tower. It has all the amenities you could want: two pools, volleyball courts, tennis courts, etc. I got a spot on the 3rd floor, just like my mother requested, and I am rooming with my best friend Scott.
I should be super stoked, right?
Possibly.
Remember those huge storms that came in last week, the ones that left almost a third of the state without power, mainly in Columbus?
Yes, those. Well one of those angry lightning bolts hit my apartment and set it on fire.
Now, I was not in Columbus during these storms. I was in fact in Delaware with my family for the weekend (thank the heavens). However, I was informed by facebook, twitter, the news, and many other sources during my absence. The most shocking: you guessed it, my future apartment complex was set on fire, along with many other places.
I did not exactly know how to take the news, but I am assuming this is the reason that I have not heard back from them. They’ve been without power ever since, so hopefully everything is okay. I’ll keep you updated.
As for the storms, I came to Columbus with no traffic lights/blackouts at night, tree branches everywhere and people scurrying at gas pumps. I think things have calmed down since and have returned to normal. Morrill Tower is unscathed, and I hope everyone else is still chilling at pools and enjoying the summer.
By the way, Happy 4th!
Tay
