My first summer after college
By Cameron | July 9, 2012
This infamous time. Where many people think about seeing old friends, and relaxing from a stressful freshmen year of college. But it’s not all rainbows, kittens, and butterflies!!I know everyone will have their own personal summer plans, but there are somethings that I didn’t see happeneing as I came home for summer. Namely, the lack of… well… everything!
My first couple of weeks home were bliss. Sleeping 12 hours a day, eating all kinds of food, spending time with my family, hanging out with old friends and that 100 degree Texas sun! You have to love it! But shortly by week 2 or 3, you could imagine the lack of productivity from spending 3 quarters/2 semesters of college. And it’s hard.
Of course this around the same time my friends leave for vacation or get really busy with jobs. So lately it’s beeny my misfortune to not be productive. In retrospect, I wish i had applied for an internship or volunteered somewhere, or maybe a summer class. At first it didn’t seem like a good idea, but it’s worth much more than sleeping and waking up at 3 pm.
On the brightside, its a lot of free time to hone my skills in other areas. I do Tai-Chi daily and exercise daily. I’ve been catching up on my reading, and since I’m part of the first year connections team, I’ve been reading “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”, the class of 2016 freshmen book. It’s actually pretty interesting. And just catching up on hobbies that I stopped in college. Playing the trumpet, playing the piano, writing and taking things easy.
But I’m ready to go back to OSU this fall! Any day now!
