Mid-summer spike!
By Cassie | July 14, 2012
At least that’s what I’m calling it. Blame it on Pinterest boards, or on the fact that I lost a couple pounds at college, my swimsuit bottoms no longer fit, and family friends and relatives keep making comments about it…but I’ll admit, it’s all been motivation for me! I have less than weeks left at home, and am planning to make the most of it, starting to get in shape before school starts!
Last year, I have to say, was severely lacking in the fitness area. While I participated in a sport almost every season throughout high school, coming to college was a different story. I went to the RPAC a few times, sure, but not nearly enough, and sports were pretty much nonexistent in my life, with the exception of throwing the frisbee every now and then on the Oval. I probably went to workout at the RPAC 6 or 7 times throughout the year, and only visited JO South once to shoot baskets with my boyfriend. My roommate had much more ambition than I did, and went running around campus at least once or twice a week. I even bailed on the Arts Scholars intramural frisbee team (which I had been really excited about!) because of laziness and lack of time/commitment.
This summer I have mainly focused on working and relaxing. While I’ve gone swimming and played tag with the kids I babysit for, it’s all been pretty leisurely, hardly enough to break a sweat. I did start P90X with my brother, but our work schedules just never seemed to work out and it fizzled out pretty quickly.
But a little over a week ago, I decided enough was enough! Not only did I want to get rid of some unwanted chub, but I also really wanted to work on toning my body and making it just generally stronger. I saw a pin on Pinterest that said something along the lines of your body being something you could sculpt, and that your stomach shouldn’t be a waste basket. I guess I had never really thought about it that way! I always have seen my body as exactly what it is, not thinking I could do much to change it. But since I came home for the summer, I have received many comments on my body, saying that I slimmed down in college and look much better (not sure how that’s exactly a compliment? :P ). This got me thinking…I wasn’t even working on my body. Sure, I was relatively healthy with my food choices, but other than that, my body took quite a beating from me with little sleep, little exercise, and a lot of PAD pizza!
So two Sundays ago I decided to do a small workout. It about killed my legs, butt, and abs! They haven’t been worked in a while. Then I played Ultimate Frisbee. This week, I’ve done the Brazilian Butt Workout, Lean Legs Workout, and a few different ab exercises to break it up. I also ran 3 miles around my neighborhood one day and biked 5.12 miles another! I figure I can start a pretty steady workout routine these last few weeks of summer, and hopefully that will prepare me for a fitter year…not to mention leave me less winded when I start working out on campus! ;D
Here are some of the workouts I’ve been doing:

Wish me luck! And while it’s summer, get out there, move your body too, and ENJOY IT!!!
Happy summer,
Cassie
