    State fair!!

    By Julia | July 29, 2012

I’ve lived in Ohio all of my life. I’ve lived in Columbus for school and this summer and last summer, yet I have never ever been to the Ohio State Fair. And I live about a mile away from the fairgrounds…

I grumbled when it doubled my 10 minute commute back from work last summer, but I never went. Summer is my time of extreme laziness and I need to be busy to get anything done (it’s really annoying to be that way).

But I decided I needed a little fun for my summer so I’m going to the Colbie Caillat and Gavin DeGraw Concert at the State Fair with a friend.

I’ve gone to a fair share of concerts in my life, most of them being for bands I had never previously followed or heard of
–Widespread Panic, offspring, Sigur Ros, Slayer, Gary Numan(?) (the guy who sings the song, “Here in my car…… “) because my brother is a sound guy for touring bands (He’s currently in Rhode Island!) so I would go to the concerts and sit in the pit or on the wings on large boxes of sound equipment and watch the show.

On my own time my first concert was Avril Lavigne (and i got a picture with her I think… if i could ever find it), Cleveland’s own Kate Voegele, Damien Rice (my brother had some connections with this one), Amy Kuney, MetroStation, and the Fray.

I’m not a super crazy concert goer (except for the time when I dressed up in crazy clothes with my friends to go to the Lady Gaga concert last year at the Schott[enstein center].

But I’m super excited to see Colbie (and Gavin) and I hope I can meet up with Colbie after the concert (meet and greet/VIP tickets are expensive… and i’m poor ;(  ). I never realized how much songwriting she does until I saw the reality series last summer, Platinum Hit, hosted by Leanne Rimes and Kara DioGuardi (she was a judge on American idol for a year or two). Colbie was a guest judge helping to judge the final songs that the groups of contestants made for that challenge. I also really really respect how she has learned to handle her performance anxiety (as I haven’t figured out how to handle mine, but that’s  a WHOLE other story for a whole other blog post).

So before the concert, my friend and I will walk around the fair and get a feel for what’s going on and then head on over for a great concert!

    Peace,

    J
