    4th Year

    By Anthony | August 24, 2012

    In 2012, that title is more appropriate than Senior. Which I totally am. Actually, I’m going to talk about that instead.

    Mood=Weird

    Song of the Week=Between Friends by Flying Lotus feat. Earl Sweatshirt

    Random=507

    First, I want to start off by letting you all know how excited I am. Not necessarily because I’m a Senior now (which will be capitalized because it makes me feel that much more important), but because I am a little surprised given how little confidence I had going into college that I would make it past my first year.

    HA! I showed you!

    HA! I showed you!

    I think the fact that I’m still around can be attributed to two things: 1. My determination to finish this whole “college” thing and, 2. Every adaptation of college that they show on TV is wrong. 3. Seriously, they’re all wrong. Even Animal House.

    But, even with all my years of writing papers, working, writing papers at work, staying up later than I should even though I could be writing papers or resting for work, I still don’t feel like a (S)enior. Maybe I’m surprised my plan of “make it up as I go along” actually worked and I’m just as surprised as everyone else. Maybe it’s because it just hasn’t hit me yet. Maybe it’s because the last three years just flew by. Maybe a different cliche can better sum up my feelings.

    Maybe I've been sleep the last three years and just realized it

    Maybe I’ve been sleep the last three years and just realized it

    Whatever the reason is, I can assure you that, when you reach this stage, you will feel like you’ve both accomplished something and still have a lot to go at the same time.

    One thing I can tell you, though, is that everyone seems to be a lot more excited than I am. I cannot tell you how many times someone has asked me “are you excited to be a (S)enior? (or something similar)” I get that nearly half as much as the number of people who, so far, have asked me more than once (hint, all of them). Oh, and apparently responding with “meh” is considered offensive. People don’t like that answer.

    To add to the awkwardness of being a Senior, not knowing how to feel, and figuring out where I go from here, my youngest brother is now in college. Think about that for a second. I am old enough for my youngest brother to be on the same scholarly level as me. I mean, given we’re only 3 years apart in age which sounds logical and all but, still. Wow. But he goes to another school, so I won’t accidentally run into him and be reminded.

    More importantly, I don't have to share my apartment with anyone

    So I know you all must be dying to know what it is that I’m going to do now that I’m a Senior (with a capital S), right? Am I planning some huge adventure? Studying harder than ever? Carefully researching post-grad options? The answer is the same thing I do every year: go to work and take a break to go to class.

    Also, find a job. That’s next on my list.

      Congrats on making it to your Senior year of college! I felt the same way when I was a senior in high-school, I didn’t know what I was going to do afterwards. Now, as a freshmen in college, I’m just happy to be in school, and still trying to figure future career goals.
