The Earth without art is “eh”

    By Julia | September 23, 2012

I saw this sentiment on facebook a week ago and it’s been on my mind for ever since. Art is so important to me. Photography, theatre, music, writing, acting, everything, yet I find myself lost in some of my engineering classes because I’m missing the art which is definitely making my life a little, well, for a lack of a better word, “eh.”

But I’m about to get a rude awakening…

I don’t recall if I officially announced it on the blogosphere, but I decided that I was going to try and complete my BS in Mechanical Engineering, a BA in Theatre, and a minor in design by next spring (which will be 5 total years, plus a few classes over summer). I’m well on my way because I will be able to finish 95% of my engineering by this spring and I have my design minor pretty much done, as well as my theatre minor (which I’ve decided to make into a major). So next year, I’ll be taking all of the core theatre classes that I haven’t taken yet, like theatre histories, creating new works,  the upper level acting , and the theatre design classes. I’m super excited ;)

…but back to my rude awakening…
I am completing one of my theatre major requirements this fall by participating on the run crew of one of the mainstage shows,Arabian Nights adapted by Mary Zimmerman. I will be back stage helping move the scenery around between scenes, which will be exciting, but a lot of work! The crew watch is this friday where the crew will get our only opportunity to watch the show (as the rest of the time we will be working…). After the watch, Monday marks the beginning of tech, AKA long hours of rehearsals every night (4 and a half hours… every night) until the dress rehearsals, and the preview and shows the next week. There are in total 9 performances ofArabian Nights and I’ve read the show and it should be a lot of fun! I shouldn’t really complain about the time committment because the cast has been rehearsing since late August, but it is a LOT of time when I still have a full load of classes…

So my life is going to be so full of art, that there isn’t going to be any time for ‘Eh’, haha.

Ya’ll should definitely try to check out the show:
    Oct 11-21

    Peace,
