    Christmastime.

    By Stephanie C. | December 4, 2012

If you look outside the window in my dorm room, it doesn’t seem at all like December. Today, the high is 60 degrees and I walked to class in a t-shirt.

The leaf-blowing teams are still blowing all over campus, the construction is just as loud and obnoxious as ever, and the Oval is still covered in strange, orange barrier fencing. It still seems like autumn! In my opinion, it should be snowing and freezing so I can wear my Ohio State scarf outside and sit in the dorm and watch ABC’s 25 Days of Christmas at night (while studying for finals, of course).

I guess it’s easy to forget that the holidays are coming.

Luckily, Ohio State has a solution for everything, and for this dilemma, the resolution was Light Up the Lake.

As many people know, even those who don’t attend OSU, we Buckeyes have many traditions. Being a freshman here, I learn more and more of these traditions as time goes on and Light Up the Lake was no different.

At this shindig in the Mirror Lake Amphitheater, there are many performances by groups on campus while they serve hot chocolate and Starbucks (yum). After that, everyone is given a candle to light and then stand around the lake. After singing everyone’s favorite song, Carmen Ohio, the lights on the trees all around the lake just light up! For me it was really magical and made me more excited for finals to be over so I can go home for Christmas!

So when I feel irritated by the holidays – the crazy shoppers, the intense traffic, the weird family members that come to visit – I’ll just think of that hour I spent at Mirror Lake with my friend, Heather, and feel a little bit better.
