A Very Harry Semester

 Written by    January 23, 2013

At the end of last semester, our Mack Hall RAs announced our dorm theme for the spring semester would be Hogwarts. As a loyal Harry Potter supporter, I was beyond excited, even when I found out my floor was deemed Hufflepuff.

As if living in Hogwarts wasn’t enough, I am also taking a freshman seminar centered around the Harry Potter series and The Hunger Games series.

I already owned all the required books for the course!

We have assignments like dramatic readings of Harry Potter books and reflections on how the perils of Harry and Katniss relate to our lives.  We call our professor Jim and sit in a circle, discussing my favorite books of all time.

Needless to say, I love it.

I would highly recommend taking a freshman seminar for all those incoming freshman out there. There are a lot to choose from, and it’s a great way to get to know a professor on a more one-on-one basis. Added bonus: everyone in the class is a first year and has the same interest as you, so you’ll probably make some new friends.

Hope everyone’s semesters are going swimmingly so far!

That sounds awesome! Freshman seminars are great, I took two my freshman year (innovation/entrepreneurship, and a comedy/theatre one) and they’re always taught by amazing profs.
