I am very excited to announce that I have just heard back from my first law school–and I’ve been accepted!!!
American University’s Washington College of Law (in Washington, D.C.) admitted me last week. I got the email with my acceptance notice when I was at work at the College of Public Health here on campus, and I am not ashamed at all to admit that I teared up in front of my co-workers and six graduate students eating their lunch, followed by a happy dance around the second-floor lobby. Yes, I was (and am) that happy.
I visited American U with some friends over winter break, and not only do I love D.C., but I love the school. It’s not in the downtown area, but slightly northwest, but it’s only a short Metro ride away from all the downtown attractions, internships, employers, etc. The law school is situated a little further away from the rest of campus (which is very green and tree-lined and almost suburban, really) and oddly enough, it’s across from a Starbucks and a Crate and Barrel. Weird, but practical, I guess.
Anyway, it’s a great school for someone who wants to practice law with focus on international issues, and while I haven’t heard back from any other school yet, I’m incredibly thrilled about this first acceptance. If I’m being honest, I also have to admit that it’s a little scary too–it’s a reminder that there is life postgrad and that I am graduating and leaving sooner than I can comprehend. But at the same time, that postgrad life is looking like it could be pretty wonderful.
