FTK!! (For The Kids!!)
By Stephanie | February 10, 2013
This weekend I participated in BuckeyeThon 2013, and it is easily my favorite day at Ohio State so far.
For those who don’t know, BuckeyeThon is a 24 hour dance marathon held at the Ohio Union that raises money for fighting pediatric cancer at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. There are two shifts of dancers, one from 8pm-8am Friday night/Saturday morning, and one from 11am-11pm (For those of you keeping score at home, there is technically a 3 hour break in there.) I was the 2nd shift, so I danced from 11am-11pm on Saturday.
I was on the Purple Team (Purple Swag!), and throughout the event, we competed against the other colors. Besides dancing, there were competitions, games, arts and crafts, and a lot of food! Many of the kids undergoing treatment at the hospital were also there with their families.
The entire dance marathon ended up raising $608,623.29 for the hospital. When they revealed this number at 11pm Saturday, I got chills. Knowing that I had just a small part in that is an amazing feeling.
I would highly recommend that everyone participate in BuckeyeThon at least once. Standing up for 12 hours is definitely worth it when you see the smile on those kids’ faces.
