This weekend I had the opportunity to attend Buckeye Awakening #8 through the St. Thomas More Newman Center. I was a little apprehensive about going, but I am so happy I did.
During my first semester at Ohio State, I didn’t get involved with the Newman Center, besides going to weekly mass. I knew they had a lot of events for students, but I never went to any of them.
This was the 8th awakening (hence, Buckeye Awakening #8, clever name I know). It was Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. I heard from speakers, listened to music, ate a lot of food, and got to know a lot of awesome people.
The great thing about the retreat was it brought together people of all places, ages, backgrounds, and majors. Though the Newman Center is the Catholic church on campus, students from other schools, and even a few alumni, attended the retreat as well.
Even though Ohio State is a public university, there are a lot of opportunities to get involved in your faith. I am really glad I went on this retreat during my freshman year because I can get to know all the people I met more during my remaining time at Ohio State.

I couldn’t seem to find a serious picture of all the retreaters…
