What’s great about Ohio State is that if you have an idea, it really can become something tangible and truly incredible.
I had heard about the 2013 documentary, A Place at the Table, which talks about hunger in the United States. I saw buzz about it through Twitter and Facebook.
It interested me because as a Nutrition major, I am passionate about the cause.
I proposed the idea to my scholarship program manager that we screen the film. He suggested we screen the film for the entire Columbus community to spread awareness about such a relevant issue.
And in a span of about a month, the idea has become something real.
On Saturday, April 13th, A Place at the Table will be screened at the U.S. Bank Conference Theater at the Ohio Union from 2:30-4:30 pm.
After the film (about 80 minutes), there will be a discussion with community food experts.
The College of Social Work, The Eminence Fellows, the Office of University Outreach & Engagement, and the Hunger.FOOD.Health Food Security Initiative are all coming together to host the event.
The aim is to bring awareness about hunger in the U.S. and mobilize students and community members to take action.
Spread the word to all you friends about this event. It truly talks about one of the great problems we must solve in America.
And it represents how just an afterthought, really, can become something real while you’re a student here at THE Ohio State University.
