And I don’t mean girlfriend…

I mean gluten-free.

This past week, I decided to go gluten-free for 7 days. I’m not allergic to gluten, and believe me, pasta and bread are my favorite food groups, but I wanted to see if I could do it.

I learned a lot during this past week about the types of foods that contain gluten. Some of the basics are bread, pasta, breaded meat, and many baked goods such as cakes and muffins.

Although it was quite difficult to not eat gluten for a week, I discovered a lot of places on campus with gluten-free choices. For example, Kennedy Commons has a gluten-free station with cereals, breads, muffins, and desserts. NetNutrition was also a helpful tool. This online tool allows you to search for foods at all the campus dining locations and view their allergens and nutrition information.

Although I don’t plan on going gluten-free forever, I am glad I did it for one week because I now have a better appreciation for those who go their entire lives without it.
