Spending Summer Horsin’ Around

 Written by    June 2, 2013

This past week I’ve been home, I’ve been getting unpacked from my internship and packed for my summer job. I’ll be a counselor and riding instructor at a horse camp called Marmon Valley Farm – and its only an hour from Columbus and The Ohio State University!

I went to this camp as a girl six or seven times before my family moved to North Carolina. It was the highlight of my summer. I loved the people, the activities, and especially the horses! I’m very excited about the opportunity to make camp special for others this summer.

An average day consists of catching horses around 6am, breakfast, horse instruction, lunch, camp activities (swimming, challenge course, crafts, driving horses, etc), dinner, evening activity (bonfire, barn dancing, hayride, etc), evening snack, and cabin time. Lights out is at 10:30.

At the end of the summer, we’ll also have a week of camp for the visually impaired and blind horse lovers.

Staff training begins tonight. With four full days of riding this week, I’m going to be sore! We also have swimming, CPR/first aid, climbing, and other camp activities we’ll be learning in training.

Its going to be a busy, tiring, and wonderful summer. I can’t wait to get started!
