Transfer student enrollment criteria
for Ohio State’s colleges and schools
Enrollment in your intended major
If it is determined that you are eligible for admission to the university:
…your academic record will be reviewed for enrollment to your major program. Some colleges and schools have requirements in addition to admission to the university, including criteria for GPA, earned hours, prerequisite course work, and/or an audition or portfolio.
If you have applied for admission to a major that has additional criteria (see criteria by college, below) and you are not yet eligible for enrollment in that major:
…you will begin your studies at Ohio State in a pre-major program in your intended college or in University Exploration. Enrollment in a pre-major program does not guarantee admission to your intended major program.
While enrolled in a pre-major program, you will be assigned an academic advisor who will assist you in meeting your general education requirements and advise you on completing appropriate prerequisites for your intended major.
If you are undecided about your major program:
…you will begin in University Exploration, where you can explore available majors and careers while completing general education requirements. Advisors will help you navigate the opportunities at Ohio State, weighing your academic and career goals, interests, and strengths. There are four exploration areas:
- Health Professions Exploration
- Management and Industry Exploration
- Science and Technology Exploration
- Undecided/Exploring
For more information, visit exploration.osu.edu.
Notes:
If you are interested in a professional degree in dentistry, education, law, medicine, optometry, pharmacy, or veterinary medicine, you will have the opportunity to indicate your interest when you apply for admission.
All criteria and standards are subject to change. A minimum grade of “C-” (or the equivalent) is required to transfer prerequisite courses mentioned in this section.
